Briarlands Farm

We erected six large polytunnels in 2004 to grow protected strawberries for selling direct off farm and to local delicatessans.

The strawberries are grown in peat bags suspened on wires.  This eliminates the need for any weedkillers and slug repellents and ensures clean, easily picked fruit.

In 2005 we erected 2 further polytunnels.  One for more strawberries and one to grow raspberries.

We also have a small number of fruit bushes which produce blackcurrants, redcurrants and gooseberries.

We do not use any chemicals on this fruit and they are used in our homemade jams.

We also have a small orchard where we grow plums, apples and pears.  These are also used in our own jams and chutneys.

From 2011 we will no longer produce Raspberries, it has now proved uneconomical to grow them and we will concentrate on the strawberries.
